PLAYERS CRITICISED
The chairman of QPR holdings Limited, Tony Fernandes, has criticized the players of his team for their indifferent attitude, but, he has made it quite clear that Harry Redknapp will continue as the manager.
QPR will surely finish this Premier League season in the relegation zone and Mr. Fernandes didn’t look amused at all with how his team has played this season.
Fernandes said, “I want that sort of guys in the team who feel proud playing in QPR jersey and give their 100% every time. I want guys who feel gutted after defeats just like me. I want guys who want to be the champions.”
“Whenever, QPR loses a game, I don’t feel good at all. I remain upset for quite a while and that’s what I expect from the players as well. They should be even more disappointed because it’s their job. I was shocked to see the reactions of a couple of players the other day.”
Talking about Harry Redknapp, Fernandes said, “Harry has done his job quite well I think and we have convinced him to stay at the club as the manager. He will be there in the next season as well.”
“There will not be any kind of pressure on Harry during the pre season transfer window. If he wants a particular player in the side, we will not force him to put that player on sale. We have already talked about this.”
Harry Redknapp was also there with Fernandes in the press conference. He said, “What happened in this season was really disappointing. We let the supporters down in a lot of matches, but, we need to move on now and focus on the next season. Hopefully, the next season will be a lot better than this one.”
PERFORMANCES IMPROVING
The centre-back of Queens Park Rangers, Nedum Onuoha, has said that he is delighted with the performance of his team recently.
The QPR team hasn’t lost any match in 2013 so far. QPR has played 3 matches this year so far out of which it has won one match, while, the remaining couple of matches have finished in the form of draws. That one victory of QPR came against a very strong Chelsea side. QPR will now face West Bromwich Albion in a FA Cup clash on Tuesday.
Talking to the reporters ahead of the match against West Bromwich Albion, Onuoha said, “We struggled a lot in the matches that we played last year, but, we have started this year brilliantly. We have faced a couple of very strong teams in the form of Chelsea and Tottenham recently and we have performed very well against both of them. When you perform well against the top teams, it gives you a lot of self belief.”
“We will have to back ourselves and try to get points out of every match. We have already lost a lot of matches and if we have to make up for that, we will have to win almost each and every game that we will play from now on. This is really difficult, but, at least, we can try and give our best.”
“Our recent performances have been very good, but, there is no place for complacency at this level. We need to carry on our good form in the further matches.”
When asked about the new manager of QPR, Harry Redknapp, Onuoha said, “He is doing a fantastic job. He has come with fresh strategies and those strategies have really worked for us. The results have started going in our favour since his arrival which is great.”
ALL EVEN AT LOFTUS ROAD
The Premier League match played between Queens Park Rangers and Aston Villa at Loftus Road Stadium on Saturday has ended in a draw. Both the teams scored one goal each and had to share points. This was the second consecutive draw for QPR. QPR had to share points in its previous match against Sunderland as well.
The result of this match didn’t change the position of QPR in the points table. QPR was at the bottom of the table before the start of the match and it is still at the same position. This was the 15th match for QPR in the competition. QPR has not won even a single match in the ongoing League so far. It has lost 9 matches and the remaining 6 matches have ended in the form of draws.
On the other hand, this draw helped Aston Villa in moving up in the points table. Villa is now at no. 16 in the points table. They have also played the same number of matches as QPR. They have won three matches and have lost 7.In the remaining three matches, they have shared points.
In Saturday’s match, both the goals were scored in the first half. Aston Villa took the lead in the 8th minute of the match. That goal was clearly against the run of play. Ashley Westwood set up the goal and Brett Holman finished it with a powerful strike from a distance of 22 yards.
But, Villa’s lead didn’t last long. The scores were levelled just after 10 minutes. Jamie Mackie was the one who scored the equalizer for QPR. Mackie took advantage of the cross from Samba Diakite and headed the ball into the top corner of the goal post.
QPR will play its next match against Wigan Athletic on 8th of December at DW Stadium.
QPR BEAT READING
Queens Park Rangers has been defeated by Reading FC in a Capital One Cup match played on Wednesday at the Loftus Road Stadium. It was a close match and Reading won it by 3-2. QPR got ahead twice in the match, but, Reading managed to score the equaliser on both the occasions and finally, scored the decider in the 81st minute to pull off the victory. With this victory, Reading cruised into the final 16.
Junior Hoilett took QPR ahead in the match in the 14th minute. It was a wonderful effort by the Canadian winger. He beat two Reading defenders before blasting the ball into the far corner of the net. But, Mark Hughes’ boys lost the advantage just after two minutes. Reading earned a free kick in the 16th minute. Nicky Shorey took the free kick and his shot was deflected into the net with a terrific header by Kaspar Gorkss. These were the only two goals scored in the first half.
QPR got ahead for the second time in the match in the 71st minute with the goal of Djibril Cisse. It was a flat drive from a distance of 25 yards which went past the Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy in no time. But, Reading again managed to level the score just after 5 minutes. That goal came off a free kick. Nicky Shorey smashed it into the top corner of the net.
In the 81st minute, Pavel Pogrebnyak scored the third goal for Reading. That goal eventually proved to be the match winning one. QPR failed to find the net for the third time in the remaining nine minutes and Reading won the match.
In the post match press conference, Mark Hughes praised Cisse who scored his first goal in the ongoing season. Hughes said, “Cisse was superb today. He hadn’t been going that well before this match, but, he made a mark today for sure.”
When asked about team’s performance, Hughes said, “It was disappointing to lose the game after taking lead twice. We gave them too many chances towards the end and they made full use of those chances.”
QPR’s next match is a Premier League encounter against West Ham United on the 1st of October at the Loftus Road Stadium.
ATMOSPHERE IS GREAT
The former Manchester city defender Nedum Onuoha has said that the atmosphere within the QPR squad at the moment is the best he has ever experienced.
The 25-year-old defender has also said that the atmosphere of the fans inside the Gelora Bung Tomo stadium was also surprising. QPR were playing against Persebaya Surabaya at the Gelora Bung Tomo stadium on Monday. The Premier league club managed to win the match 2-1. Speaking after the match, Nedum Onuha has said that he is very much looking forward to the start of the new season with his new club QPR.
He recently made the move to the London club permanent after failing to make it into the first-team regularly at Manchester City. He had spent the last few seasons on loan deals at clubs like Sunderland. He has said that he cannot wait to start the new season as a QPR player. The club managed to survive in the Premier league against all the odds. Not many gave them a chance when they were promoted to the Premier league, but with the addition of crucial signings in the January transfer window, they managed to survive. Once again, manager Mark Hughes – backed by the ambitious owner Tony Fernandes – has made some important signings.
"It was incredible from the moment we left the hotel to make our way to the ground, but the atmosphere inside the stadium itself was unreal. That's the best atmosphere I've ever played in. It wasn't intimidating, because they were friendly in their manner and just really wanted to support their team. It wasn't really hostile, just incredibly loud, passionate and exciting. I won't forget this trip for a long, long while. Some of the things I've seen and heard will stay with me forever," said the defender on the official website of the club.
Barton to train with League 2 side
Controversial Queen’s Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton has announced on Twitter that he is to spend a week training with newly promoted League 2 side Fleetwood Town.
Barton received a 12 match ban following an aggressive clash with a number of Manchester City players during his side’s 3-2 defeat on the last day of the season, and has been left out of the Hoops’ squad for their pre season tour of Malaysia.
Despite this omission, the tenacious 29 year old has opted to spend the next week working on his fitness and has come to an arrangement with the Lancashire club, who were playing in the North West Counties League just eight years ago.
Despite rumours circulating about the possibility of a surprise permanent move for the one time England international, Barton has clarified through Twitter, his favoured form of communication, that he remains QPR through and through.
“Still have three years left at QPR. Exciting times for the club, which I intended to be a part of. Need to get some fitness in the meantime”
Nevertheless, rumours about a potential short term loan deal have intensified, as a trip down the divisions could lessen the blow of Barton’s ban, which would run until mid November in the Premier League. However, due to the thick and fast nature of the League 2 schedule, the twelve games could elapse as much as six weeks earlier should Barton sign onto Fleetwood’s books, albeit temporarily.
Whether a genuine and honest attempt by a player keen to turn over a new leaf and improve his fitness while passing on his wisdom to the youngsters of League 2, or a crafty scheme to sidestep one of the Premier League’s heaviest ever disciplinary sanctions, this is yet another unpredictable twist in the career of one of English football’s most notorious characters.
ONUOHA BACKS CITY
QPR defender Nedum Onuoha has said that he wants Manchester City to win the title, while he also wants QPR to stay up in the Premier league next season.
The former Manchester City defender came through the ranks at the club before finding it extremely hard to break it into the first-team due to the arrival of a number of high-profile signings.
He ultimately decided to leave the club permanently after spending two spells on loan at Sunderland. QPR was the destination for the defender in the summer, but he has been involved in a relegation fight also the season.
However, QPR have the opportunity to remain in the Premier league going into the last day of the season if they get at least a point against Manchester City on the final day of the season. Of course, they can also survive with a defeat at the Etihad stadium due to the fact that Bolton are the only team capable of going ahead of QPR on the table. They will be up against a resilient Stoke team at the Britannia stadium. Nedum Onuoha being a Manchester City fan has said that it would be great for the club if they win the first team in league title, while he also hopes to remain in the Premier league with QPR.
“If City could finish it off and win the title without finishing us off then I couldn’t be happier. QPR staying up is the biggest thing for me, no question. As long as we experience that emotion [of having secured their Premier League status] then everything else is a bonus. The Etihad Stadium could be the best place in the world this weekend if they win and we stay up but unfortunately that is only one of many scenarios," said Onuoha.
HODGSON CHASING ONUOHA
Roy Hodgson is keen to sign Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha in the January transfer window. However, it is very likely that it will not be a permanent move, as Manchester City are showing great interest in retaining the England centre half.
English players are of great value nowadays and it seems that Manchester City have recognised the value behind Nedum Onuoha as well. The 25-year-old has rarely featured for Manchester City this season, with manager Roberto Mancini preferring the Centre back duo of Vincent Kompany and Joleon Lescott for most of the matches. Nedum Onuoha spent last season out on loan at Sunderland and there has been talk that he would be willing to do that once again.
West Brom manager Roy Hodgson came very close to signing the player in the summer, but his attempts were not fruitful because Manchester city decided to pull out in the last minute. "I've had a meeting with the chairman Dan Ashworth to discuss what we will do in January. I'm pretty sure the club will do its best and if there's any players we do need we'll be able to do it within the parameters we work with. We won't be putting in a bid for Sergio Aguero though, that's for sure!" said Roy Hodgson when asked about the potential transfer rumours for West Brom in the January transfer window.
Despite being one of the favourites for relegation this season, West Brom have survived the most of the tough fixtures during the first part of the season. As the Christmas fixtures get near, West Brom are in a much comfortable position than they would have been had it not been for Roy Hodgson. However, the former Fulham manager will want to make a few signings to make their position even more comfortable.
